Moving checklist
What to do three months, one month and one week before, and after.

Three months before
- Get the offer in writing, with the relocation package and start date.
- Run the numbers in the simulator with real rents from the city.
- Check that your identity card and passport are valid.
- Outside Europe: start the visa process with the company.
- Check notice periods for your lease and other contracts in Portugal.
One month before
- Book temporary accommodation for the first weeks.
- Ask the Portuguese social security for proof of your contributions.
- Gather documents: contract, diplomas, criminal record certificates if asked, reference letters.
- Plan how you will receive and move money between accounts and currencies.
The week you move
- Update your address with the tax authority once you no longer live in Portugal.
- Carry digital copies of every document.
- Confirm your first day, equipment and who will meet you.
The first month
- Register your address and get the country's tax or identification number (see the country guide).
- Open a bank account and give the details to your employer for payroll.
- Arrange health insurance or registration with the health system.
- Check your first payslip: tax class, deductions and credits applied.
