Moving to Ireland

Ireland hosts the European headquarters of many tech companies, especially in Dublin, and work is in English. Official information: Citizens Information and gov.ie.

When you arrive

  • PPS Number: your personal number to work, pay tax and use public services. You apply to the Department of Social Protection with proof of address.
  • Revenue: register your job in your Revenue account (myAccount) so your tax credits apply; otherwise you may overpay tax on your first salaries.

Health

  • There is a public system, but many employees have private health insurance, often paid or shared by the employer: worth asking.

Housing

  • Dublin has very high rents and few homes on offer. Run the simulator with real listing prices before deciding, and be wary of anyone asking for a deposit without a viewing.
